Chapel Hill, NC (September 14, 2010) - Divi Resorts announced today its latest green initiative, adding to a host of environmentally sustainable measures the company has implemented throughout its properties across the Caribbean. All guest rooms, suites and villas will now feature personal care amenities by Green from NATURA. The exclusive line of bath and facial soaps, lotions, shampoos and conditioners features biodegradable packaging, lids, and caps, thereby reducing demand for petroleum-based plastics. Its vegetable-based soaps are provided in natural recycled paper cartons, and NATURA's signature "Waste Reducing" oatmeal exfoliating soap eliminates the unused center of traditional soap bars meaning less soap ends up in the trash.
Other benefits and features of Green from NATURA products include:
• Paraben-free ingredients
• Environmentally tested for safe usage in drainage to sewers and treatment plants
• Labels and cartons printed with soy-based inks
• Corn-based Plastarch Material (PSM) bottles which can be re-sealed and transported home easily, unlike tear-open packet versions
• Cruelty free with no animal testing
In addition, Divi's property in Barbados, Divi Southwinds, continues to raise the bar for earth-friendly practices and was just awarded certification as a Green Globe resort for the second year in a row. Green Globe is the premier global certification for sustainability and recognizes environmental stewardship and practices with a collection of over 40 criteria. The resort was also a semifinalist in 2009 for the prestigious Ministry of Tourism Green Hotel Award and received the "Honorary Award" from the Travel Foundation's "Switch Off Save Big" challenge.
"We're pleased to offer our guests outstanding vacation destinations that proactively demonstrate responsible tourism," commented E.J. Schanfarber, CEO of Divi Hotels Marketing, Inc. "As we go forward, we will continue to look for new ways to help protect our natural resources."
The entire roster of Divi properties throughout the Caribbean have adopted an extensive variety of green practices. Energy saving bulbs are used throughout the resorts as well as environmentally-friendly cleaning products. Divi staff members also request guests reuse towels and sheets to decrease the energy used in machine washing and water waste as well as installed low flow toilets and showerheads. In addition, there are recycling programs in place and Divi resorts no longer use disposable cups at open-air bars and restaurants, only reusable plastic cups. At its resorts in Aruba, there are now easy-to-spot "Eco-Cup" return stands in strategic locations throughout the properties and the resort staff takes part in the IslandŐs clean-up efforts on the beach and well as at neighborhood recreational centers and other public community locations.
"All of the Divi properties across the Caribbean are dedicated to protecting the beauty of the islands, and we are taking steps to become greener everyday," said Schanfarber.
