Chapel Hill, NC (October 21, 2010) - The calm and clear waters at Divi Flamingo Beach Resort and Casino attract crowds of scuba divers each year to view the spectacular life below the surface of the Caribbean. Later this month, Divi Flamingo Beach Resort and the Diveheart Foundation will host a special group of handicapped divers whose journey will be captured by eight-time Emmy award-winning Watermark.TV.
Three handicapped scuba divers will travel to Divi Flamingo October 23-30 to film a documentary on their experience and Diveheart Foundation, a non-profit group which focuses on educating and providing the scuba diving experience to those with disabilities.
Along with the pristine environment of Bonaire is the constantly warm ocean temperature, which is important for divers who cannot regulate their body temperature. In addition, disabled divers often practice water therapy and other "gravity free" activities to increase strength and confidence. Divi Flamingo Beach Resort is continuously upgrading its amenities and accommodations for disabled divers and guests, including eight handicap accessible rooms and a customized dive boat.
"We want to motivate people with or without disabilities to imagine the possibilities," stated Jim Elliot, president of Diveheart Foundation. "Divi Flamingo Resort has been providing amazing dives and experiences for disabled divers for years, and we're happy to have their staff a part of our mission."
